Finished this beat I started the other day
Finished this beat I started the other day
I finished 1984! (Spoilers Below)
The ending is not quite what I expected. Pretty disheartening tbh. When the oppressors take everything from you and fully control you, the only thing Winston had going for him was keeping his hatred towards them, refusing to let them convert him. He would have had to do this undetected, hiding his true feelings even from himself until the last moment before he receives his inevitable bullet to the head, but to be fully converted and worship the symbol of oppression, manipulation and outright evil is a devastating way to end his life and the story. We as readers (just like Winston) never learn if there truly is a brotherhood that revolts against the part of not… but the situation is just super bleak. I wonder what Orwell is trying to convey though. He obviously expressed many ideas explicitly, but does he genuinely think we are unable to overcome our oppressors/the wielders of power in society? Throughout the novel Winston's capture and death was considered inevitable - he even admitted so himself multiple times, but as a reader you can't help but root for him and almost expect him to be the exception. Since he wasn't though I feel like the novel dragged on way too much, with Part 1 and 2 being too slow and heavy-handed. All in all I'm glad I read it, but the experience was not enjoyable at times. Certainly thought provoking but only moderately entertaining.
Didn't work out but I did some stretching because my legs are suuuper sore after yesterday. Can't even walk properly. Going to work out tomorrow though, and I hope my legs are recovered enough in 2 days so I can do lower body again
Completed the house beat from a couple days ago. I love the energy in it.
The book is coming to an end and getting interesting. Most likely going to finish tomorrow. Things look grim for Winston tbh
Completed this workout at Raj's house today. He pushed me a lot and because of that I completed more exercises/sets than I would have alone. It was hot as hell today though, so it was extremely tough. It looks pretty easy on paper but it was the hardest workout I can remember doing.
I downloaded a new free VST today called "Podolski" and I was experimenting with it. I like it a lot so far! There aren't a crazy amount of sounds but they are quality sounds.
I got started on a chill beat today - something that I could see Childish Gambino singing on (older Gambino in particular)
Finished the chapter. The book is almost done - I'll finish tomorrow or the day after. I really wonder how it is going to end because Winston is in a bad situation, and I'm not sure if it's even possible for him to find a way out of it. If he doesn't then George Orwell is a savage for this lol.
Didn't work out today either, so my two 'breaks' for the week are gone. No more excuses or I'm fully off track.
Today's beat is not at all my usual style. I started off by making chords for a Kaytranada type beat, and it evolved into a groovy house beat, but I like it!
Read a few more pages today (up to 238). I started extremely late and I was only planning to read a couple but I found myself continuing onward. I am stopping myself now though because I need sleep.
I did not have much free time today so I didn't work out. I don't consider this an end to my 'streak' because my workout plan is for 5 days, not 7. That being said, if I still work out 4 more times this week I am still on track. I consider today a rest day.
Made this beat/loop. Gives me Playboi Carti vibes, especially the way I did the drums.
Read the final chapter of part 2. It had a thrilling twist.
If things appear too good to be true, they probably aren't.
I've been working out on and off for years, but I find that I am never able to keep it up consistently. At my best I go for 6 months of exercising several times a week, and then go for a few months barely working out (if any). When I started making beats daily I took that as my priority, but I use that as an excuse to not work out an better myself. I've decided that I need to make a change though for my own sake; I want to be healthier, look better and feel better. So far I've never broken an HFO streak (aside from not uploading), so I'm hoping that tracking my progress in this format will be the change that makes a lasting difference for me. I'm not sure what my approach will be in terms of what I upload (photos of the plan, videos of myself performing the movements etc.) but it will probably be a mix. The important part to me though is the reflection, so I can track how I performed and felt. That being said:
I went to my boy Raj's house today and did the first workout of a workout plan he made for me. It consisted of these exercises but less sets so I can ease into the routine. We didn't have a pull up bar so we did variations (flyes, etc.). I wanted to push myself more, but I was physically unable to do the amount of reps I wanted, so I need to stay consistent to get to that level. My main struggle was getting enough reps in for the third variation of curls (though curls haven't been a problem in the past). Also, when we got to cardio, I couldn't do the third set because I felt light headed and nauseous. I want to push my body but not to the point where I can't sustain daily/regular workouts.
Made this chill beat from scratch. I'm used to making "type beats", but I'm not sure what artist's style this beat fits. I think I'll keep some of these beats in the vault and then release them in beat tapes for streaming
Finally finished chapter 9, which went by painfully slowly.
It was a book within a book, but I want to read a plot of a novel unfold, not read an essay on politics, but it is what it is. Hopefully it gets back to interesting plot, because though the book Winston is reading is informative and important, as he states himself, it did not yet teach anything new (just confirmed what we already knew).
Just read a few pages (up to 213) because I was busy today.
This section was just more info from the book Winston is reading; the author highlighted the threats against the party and the power dynamics within society.
Continued with Yeezus-inspired production, this time just drums/bass. Afterwards I shifted gears and started something totally different, but I'll share that tomorrow.
I'm finding that in the last few days I feel the need to start something, be unsatisfied with it and the start something else which ends up being better; it's almost as if I need to get the wack production out of my system (although I wouldn't go as far as saying my original work is wack)
Read up to page 208 today.
Winston was given a book and began reading, so this chapter was partially a book within a book. As such, it was very dense but enlightening on the ways of the society in the story.
Yeezy season approaching
Read up to page 184.
Winston and Julia are now fully committed to taking down the Party, and are willing to put their lives on the line, along with plenty of other sacrifices. But there rebellion is no longer just the two of them - they now play a larger role.
Reading about these perspectives on sacrifice for the sake of change in interesting. These people are willing to give up everything for the sake of future generations - like risking everything to plant a tree knowing they will not be able to enjoy its shade or taste its fruits in their lifetime (or the next several for that matter). Also their revolution is silent as to not be detected, and it makes me wonder what approach we should all be taking to rid our world of the issues we face.
Made this beat/loop earlier today. It's not bad but not amazing either tbh, but afterwards I started making another Yeezus type beat which I will post tomorrow. I've been really into Yeezus and I'm embracing it.
Read up to page 173, and I'm continuing to enjoy the book. Still requiring thought and reflection, but more feeling than before.
Inspired by Kanye's newest single, I tapped into my Yeezus bag. Everything is from scratch. Now I just need Kanye before Jesus did the laundry lol
Inspired by Kanye's newest single, I tapped into my Yeezus zone. Everything is from scratch.
Made this melody loop from scratch. I also started another beat (which I am very excited about), but I'll work on it more and upload tomorrow.
Read another chapter (up to page 150). I like this connection developing between Winston and Julie. I can empathize with them, and I root for them as lovers in a world that wants you to survive but not live.
I couldn't resist making a change-up at the end in tempo. It's an effect that I go to often, but almost always seems to sound dope. Looking to be more productive musically tomorrow though…
Didn't read much today, just chapter 3 of part 2 (up to page 139), but tmrw I have a day off so I want to read some more.
The book is getting better in my opinion. I'm starting to get more comfortable, so I am anticipating some unsettling action to occur soon.
I read the first two chapters of part 2 today (up to page 129).
It looks like the beginning of a forbidden romance.
In terms of form and storytelling, things are getting more interesting, with more "showing" and less telling. Since the laws and way of life in this dystopian world are so different it makes sense that Orwell went into such depth to explain things directly to the reader (despite the fact it made things boring). I think this is a big shift in style though for the better. I can feel the action a lot more now: the paranoia of being caught, the emotions shared between characters etc.
I completed yesterday's beat, and I like the outcome. Lot of ambient sounds, and the drums hit hard,
I read up to page 105 today (finished Part 1).
Today's reading was the first time I felt fully immersed in the novel, where I could vividly imagine what was being described. For the most part, with this novel I am required to consciously think and while that is rewarding in certain ways, it is less entertaining. I feel that many parts of the novel are heavy-handed, and there is too much explaining by Orwell, but with today's reading I could just be and inhabit the world. I guess the difference in the way the information is presented is this section features more dialogue, so the characters were talking to each other in order for the reader to be given info, whereas the rest of the novel so far was mostly the character's thoughts, where Orwell would tell you exactly what Winston was thinking (and the significance/backstory behind everything). I much prefer today's style of writing, but let's see what the rest of the book has in store.
Found this fire melody loop and had to use it. It's really ambient, so I'm using drum sounds with a lot of texture/reverb to go with it.
I added bass but I feel like it's not quite perfect
Read chapter 7 today.
More deep ideas. The most interesting is a quote on this page:
"Until they become conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious."
Structured out yesterday's beat. It's almost complete, but I still need to add some low end and maybe some more melodic elements to keep things interesting
Read chapter 6 today, now on page 71.
The Party's control extends to love and marriage. They only encourage couples to be together if there is no physical attraction between them. The Party does not allow for romance, but instead wants couples to have children for the purpose of raising them to be spies.
Started making a Rick Ross type beat.
Read up to the end of chapter 3 (pg.65). More lies and deception from the Party for the sake of their reputation. The nation is crumbling, but they report that things are better than ever. Sounds familiar.
No time to read today as I caught up with friends instead, but I did manage to read 7 pages even though its super late…
Main interesting idea from this passage is the elimination of vocabulary and words. The government continues to make the dictionary shorter and shorter, restricting the number of words people can learn and use, and this affects their ability to think. Through this idea, I'm realizing the importance of this journey of reading that I am embarking on. Even from a linguistic perspective, learning the usage of words, and expanding my vocabulary will allow me to think, communicate and interact more effectively - which can lead to knowledge, power, and freedom, unlike those in the book.
Started working on another drill beat. I was struggling to do the 808 glides, so that's the next step
I read from page 30-50 just now (Chapters 3 and 4). Both of these chapters went into detail regarding the ways the Party controls history. Winston works in the "Ministry of Truth", where most of his work is fabricating stories and creating false facts (basically fake news) while deleting existing stories from existence. When they government 'vapourizes' a person from existence, the ministry of truth deletes all their records and any mention of the individual in the news. All of this is for the purpose of making the government look competent and favourable, but everything is fake - pure manipulation.
These ideas echo Fahrenheit 451 a lot. Both societies rely on manipulating citizens, disabling them from gaining knowledge, and normalizing negativity, lack of morals, blind obedience etc. through the media. Unfortunately there is overlap with our society as well. We may very well be living in the same situation, with the government controlling the media, fabricating facts and events (some think COVID is a hoax for example), but there is no way for us to truly know. I guess we should just believe half of what you see and none of what you hear, because things are often not what they appear to be.
Went back to work on a beat from before (HFO 413). Almost finished it, but I'm going to fix up the arrangement and maybe add some effects to make it more interesting.
Simple RnB melody and drums from scratch.
I read from page 20-30 today, which got me up to chapter 3. I want to read more than 10 pages per day, but I need to start reading earlier to accomplish that.
There were a few stand-out points to me in today's reading. One is that Winston had a dream where O'Brien's voice told him a secret, and Winston can not remember if he had this dream before or after he met O'Brien for the first time… pretty creepy o__o
Also in chapter 2 Orwell reveals more info about the story-world that is rather unsettling. For example, the neighbor's kids are pleading with their mom to go watch a public hanging… and this is considered normal. Furthermore, as the passage pictured above shows, kids fall right into the Party's propaganda, and are completely brainwashed to the point where they snitch on their own parents. It's a scary idea to think of, having zero privacy to the point where your own children are an extension of the government/police.
I finished chapter 1, as I read from page 10-20 today. Progress was slow, but that is because the beginning of this novel is dense with concepts and the framework of the fictional society in the text. Nonetheless, the ideas are interesting. Winston (the main character) works for the government in a totalitarian society that monitors anything and everything, including thoughts (monitored by the "ThoughtPolice". Winston started writing his unfiltered thoughts/ideas down in a dictionary, which is punishable by death, and has discovered he wants to see the fall of Big Brother.
What I find most fascinating so far is the way propaganda controls people in this society. They are exposed to so much negativity in what they call "Two Minutes of Hate", which gives me a cult type of impression. For Winston, the rage this ritual creates is not only directed towards the intended target (a traitor of the State), but also his co-workers and Big Brother. He is torn and conflicted, but it's interesting to see the extent to which they are all brainwashed… The Party's slogan (in capital letters on the page) is so astonishingly absurd, yet citizens take it to be truth.
Also a random observation I made is that both 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 are dystopian novels concerned with totalitarianism, censorship etc. and they are were published within the same year or so (1949-1950), so I'm curious to find out more about the historical context of that time.
Finished the beat I've been working on the past couple days
After finishing "Fahrenheit 451" I decided to start George Orwell's 1984. Another dystopian novel, which I find to be an interesting genre/style. I hope this is equally interesting. I read the first 10 pages so far, and it is difficult to adjust because I need to get "settled in" and create a clear mental image. Dystopian fiction novels require lots of world building so readers understand the nuances of the societies that are conceived and depicted; I hope to get accustomed to this story world and become immersed in the novel like I was when I read Fahrenheit 451.
Continued working on yesterday's beat, adding to the melody
Finished the novel! It was a great read. The end was exciting and this last section (pg. 150-180) had many insightful and thought-provoking passages (such as the one at the beginning of this page). This last part of the novel discusses the characters' life missions/purpose, reflection on the world, and outlook on the future.
Overall I highly recommend the book. And I am excited to start another book (though I don't think I have too many options at home currently!)
Made this all from scratch and I like where it's headed.
Read from page 120-149 today. This section is definitely the climax. Things escalated quickly and it is a thrilling read. The main character Montag is put in a desperate position and makes quick decisions with major consequences. Only 30 pages or so left in the novel, and I'm excited to see how it plays out!
Got started on this trap beat, I could go a couple different directions with it and I haven't decided yet.
Only got to read a few pages today (113-120) but I completed part 2 which ended on a cliff hanger. There weren't any passages that were as thought provoking as other days, but speeches from certain characters highlight how easy it is to be manipulated and persuaded through rhetoric. Knowledge is power, and can be used for good or bad.
Threw something together quickly - melody loop from a WondaGurl kit and some drums
Didn't have much time today, so I only read from page 100-113.
Key insight from today's reading is the duality of life is necessary and important. With only joy and fun like there is in the story nothing has any significance (in the passage above a woman says if her husband is killed in war they agreed she should immediately move on and give him no thought). In reality, overcoming hardship makes something worthwhile. Experiencing sadness makes the happy moments that much more precious. Joy wouldn't feel so good if it wasn't for pain etc.
Added drums to the melody today
Made this melody yesterday
Read up to page 100 today. The text continues to be thought provoking. As I expected, the main character is unsettled, and is starting to question the world around him (which is looked down upon in the book).
I'm finding it fascinating how the events of the plot and the futuristic dystopian world the author created are relevant to today's society, even though the book was published in 1950. The main point of emphasis is that we as consumers are being constantly subjected to hollow entertainment that keeps us occupied, and subsequently unable/willing to take on bigger problems going on in the world. Then, for better or worse, the systems of the world continue to function without being questioned. We are only concerned about keeping ourselves entertained (because happiness is what matters most in life), but to what extent are we responsible for the issues and systems around us, and everywhere else in the world? As Montag (the protagonist) grapples with these sort of thoughts, I too ask myself these questions.
Made this UK drill beat today. For the first time in a while I made a full beat from start to finish in a single sitting, and one that I'm proud of at that. Might still do a bit of mixing and effects, but overall I like this one a lot.
I read from page 25-65 today. There were some interesting ideas and profound passages in today's reading, such as the one above. Without spoiling anything in terms of plot, the novel so far deals with concepts of happiness, history, government control, truth, equality etc. For many, "ignorance is bliss" and this is something I feel like the main character will grapple with.
I started this HFO project to get in the habit of reading daily, fall in love with reading, and expand my perspective, and I feel it happening already.
I'm an English major aspiring to be an English teacher, yet I rarely read books (I usually only do so when required for classes). However, I took an American Fiction class last year and it re-sparked my interest in reading. I want to start reading consistently - all types of texts and genres.
I've been trying to find a nice fiction book to read. Something interesting and enjoyable, reasonably short and manageable, and today I found this novel in my bookshelf. Fahrenheit 451 is a dystopian fiction novel published in 1950. I was given this copy by my manager at my first co-op placement around 3 years ago, and meant to read it but never got around to it, until now. I just read the first 25 pages, and look forward to reading the rest.
Worked on a beat I started a while back. Basically finished now but might add some finishing touches.
Finished up this beat I was working on earlier
Also completed this beat that I started a week or two ago.
Went back to this beat I made months ago to structure it out, and add effects. It is now complete.
Continued to work on the beat, added another drum sequence.
Found a spanish guitar loop and built off of it.
Day 2 on the same beat.
Found this crazy melody loop with effects on it. Reminds me of Yeezus, or even Algorithm by Gambino. Going to build on it with drums, effects, and instruments.
Continued to build on the beat with my own melody and bass sounds. Going to touch it up later, but I like the simplicity of it. This would give the artist lots of room to work.
Found this guitar loop that reminds me of a Kanye/Mike Dean type of sound (which I have been inspired by recently), so I am building a beat off of it.
Started making a Pop Smoke type drill beat
Created this melody from scratch, and will add to it later. Might make it into a Tyler the Creator type beat.
Finished the beat.
Continued building on the beat, with some effects and a flute melody.
Found this guitar melody and started to build around it. Drums this day, and then more afterwards.
Catching up on my uploading. Made this simple beat with Laid back and happy vibes from scratch.
Lil Uzi alien vibes
Melodic, sad beat from scratch
Been super busy this week so I've been (barely) adding to this beat over a few days
Schoolboy Q type beat, melody from scratch and half-timed
Schoolboy Q type beat. Melody is half-timed
Chill uplifting melody with Playboi Carti type drums
I added drums and more instruments to yesterday's melody. It is progressing but still needs to be structured and edited.
Made this melody yesterday. It gives me Kid Cudi vibes
Finished the Future type beat
Started making this Future type beat. I call it "Kamikaze"
Went back to a beat I was working on a few days ago. I really like the final product.
A lot of emotion in this one, but again, not sure what to do with it
Interesting beat I made from scratch. Not sure what artist's style this is…
Super hard/aggressive Tory Lanez type beat in the style of "New Toronto 3".
Completed the beat
Added to the beat
Started working on this Dom Kennedy x Nipsey Hussle type beat
XAE 12 Musk type beat lol
A Boogie wit da hoodie type beat
Dark Travis Scott vibes
I could see Drake rap and sing on something like this
Sad melody loop I made
I've kept up with my beat/loop per day but haven't posted in a while. Catching up now.
21 Savage type beat (snippet)
Beat from yesterday. Wu Tang type sound from scratch
Continued working on the Don Tolliver type beat. Added 808s and improved the hi hats. Also spent most of my day creating visualizers for youtube beats and strategized
Made this from scratch real quick. Going to continue to work on it, and I'd love to see some Don Tolliver type vocals on this.
Added on to yesterday's beat (last upload)
Working on a beat, two sides to it, so I call it "Two Face"
Drum loop I made. Bass reminds me off Yeezus
Continued to mess with the sample, and created a full beat
Found a cool old song on youtube, sampled it, and added drums and additional instruments (namely guitar).
Turned a snippet I made into a full beat (just like the last output)
Added to this and structured it out
Simple trap melody
Added to the melody, structured it out, and added some other elements
Continuing to work from scratch. Very pleased with this melody I made, and the drums too.
Made this cinematic pad/piano
Another Kid Cudi inspired loop I made
Retro piano sound - there's potential with this one
Not a fan of this one tbh, the west coast style is there but I need to make changes to the melody loop (especially the ascending piano)
Added grossbeat to a piano loop and made this
Dark trap beat (needs more work, 808s etc.)
Lil Uzi shoulder roll
Retro washed piano sound with some simple drums
Latin Reggaeton beat
Gunna x Young Thug guitar type beat
Emotional Drake x Weeknd vibes.
Simple West Coast beat. The strings in particular remind me of Nipsey.
Another nice melody from my producer friend Darius that I added to.
A fellow producer sent me some loops, so I made this (one of my first times reaching out to collab with another producer).
Dramatic orchestral melody on Xpand2. Could potentially turn it into a dark Weeknd type beat depending on how I do the drums
Dark melody/drums, something different but not sure how to classify it.
Kid Cudi vibes
Happy Asap Rocky vibes from scratch
Tried making an aggressive trap beat in the style of NLE Choppa. Sounds made with Xpand 2
Inspired by the Weeknd's new album "After Hours"
SZA type beat (super rough)
Made these lush Rnb Chords and drums for a PartyNextDoor type beat. Still in the works - going to add more to it and probably play around with BPM and pitch.
Another melody made with Xpand2
I downloaded Xpand2 and I've been making melodies with it. I've always been using loops or making melodies with stock plugins, so it's nice to finally have a proper VST. Might continue to make just melodies for outputs and make full beats later.
Travis Scott/Roddy Ricch Vibes
Travis Scott type beat - "End of Days"
A$AP Rocky type beat - Really like how this turned out. Gives me early A$AP vibes. LISTEN WITH QUALITY HEADPHONES FOR THE BASS.
"Liberty" - Made this all from scratch. I really like the emotion in the melody… reminds me of something Kanye or Nas would rap on.
Found this vocal loop that reminds me of early Kanye and I added drums to it
"Oblivion" - Reversed a piano loop and added to the melody, plus did the drums as always
21 Savage type beat - Did the melodies and drums all from scratch. Still need to add more sounds and structure the beat.
Lil Baby type beat (snippet) - I took a piano loop and made it 0.5 speed and added some trap drums.
Made this melody loop, the timing is slightly off but it was cool to experiment strictly with melodies
I was trying to make a remix to "Ye" by Burna Boy but it was trash and I gave up on it
'Days Before Rodeo' Travis Scott sound
Chill beat with some choir style vocals
Denzel Curry type beat
No time today… This is what I got
Latin Vibes from scratch
Today's output is something weird I made from scratch. With this post though, I am now up to date with my uploads.
Rough French Montana type beat, needs more work ofcourse
Continued working on the same beat as the day before. Could use a few finishing touches but I really like it.
Weeknd x Kanye West Vibes. Inspired by Weeknd's new music but also reminds me of "Flashing Lights" by Kanye. All from scratch too.
Beat inspired by Mac Miller's song "Jet Fuel".
Still needs to be structured.
Roy Woods x Smino RnB vibes from scratch
Trying to catch up with my posting and start sharing consistently on time.
Dark guitar trap beat
Made this 3 days ago by starting with a loop and adding to it. A lot of emotion in the piano
Also went back to structure this beat out and add to it
I made a loop for my 365th beat, and I came back to it 3 days ago to add countermelodies and make it a fully structured beat. Now it is one of my faves, and I could easily see someone rapping on it in a UK style.
Made this 4 days ago, continuing with my momentum after finishing my 365 day project. No Days Off.
Been really intrigued by the UK Drill sound recently, so I'm planning on experimenting more with that genre going forward.
That being said… today marks 365 days of making daily beats. This is something that I would have considered impossible before, but I now view it as simple, and it is ingrained into my lifestyle. To be honest there were tons of nights where I just threw a quick beat together, but that is still better than nothing, because overall my productivity has improved tremendously. If I hadn't forced myself to churn out something each day, a lot of these beats would never have been made. I am looking forward to continuing the momentum and progressing in a more strategic way to make quality music in addition to the high quantity I've been able to make. Overall it's been a great experience and I've loved this process. Thank you to everyone who has listened to my creations and been supportive.
Made this beat yesterday inspired by Pop Smoke. RIP to the young rising star
The file got messed up so here is a duplicate
Isaiah Rashad vibes
Dark Drill trap beat
Another one of my recent favourites
Some Roy Woods vibes
Swimming with the sharks
Roddy Ricch's new album had me super inspired
Something I could see Weeknd singing on
Another one of my favourites
Something I could imagine young Drake rapping on
Not a fan of this one
Travis and the JACK BOYS would be fire on this
I like what I did with the bass here
Made this with a loop from one of illmind's melody packs
Some trap stuff I could see 6lack on with some rappers on the verses
Drake melody loop was so on point
One of my favourite beats, so much emotion in the sample
Sound inspired by Timbo
Travis Scott sound but still needs 808s
Boom Bap with some choir elements
Wavy Space Trap
Drums inspired by Burna Boy's sound
DaBaby type beat
Added lofi drums to a classical melody
This one was super quick
I was struggling to make a melody but I stuck with it and came up with this
Happy Trap Beat
Travis Scott type beat. I like this one a lot too.
West Coast/Dr. Dre vibes
This is one of my favourites… made the melodies on Garageband and drums of FL Studio. I feel like Joey Bada$$ and Beastcoast would fit on this perfectly.
My process was completely different than usual for this beat. I made the melodies on garageband on my gf's ipad, and then exported the file and made the drums on FL Studio. Garageband on the ipad is surprisingly useful with all the sounds you can easily manipulate
Another simple trap beat, used a melody loop for this one
Made this one super quickly
Snippet of a beat made from a loop
Trap beat from scratch… seems like a Lil Tecca x Lil Mosey type beat
Some melody work.
Inspired by Kanye and his sampling of Gospel, I made this beat sampling 80's church gospel. Feels like something Jay Z would rap on years back.
When I first listened to "Closed on Sundays" off of Kanye's new album, I felt like it needed some drums, so I made an edit and added my own (after the beat change).
Simple trap beat off a loop
Basic and needs to be structured
Continuing to make my beats from scratch
West coast beat from scratch
Sampled some soul music tonight
Relaxing Lofi Beat… I want to find some plugins that add effects to make this type of beat have more of a lofi aesthetic
Bouncy trap beat
Beat in the style of 2pac
Beat inspired by "4th Dimension" from "Kids See Ghosts"
This wasn't uploading last night. Tyler the Creator x Kanye vibes
Made another trap beat from scratch - I experimented with the plugin "Arcade" by Output
Melodic trap beat from scratch. Looking to upgrade from stock plug-ins soon
Made a nice melodic beat this evening - still needs some bass, might add a guitar solo too
super quick beat
Basic boom-bap beat
Snippet of a Playboi Carti type beat I made from a vintage sample
This didn't go through yesterday… but I made this one from scratch too - trying to put effort into having emotion in the melody
Super quick lofi(?) beat
Hype trap beat
From scratch again
Melodic rap beat, melodies and drums all from scratch
Made this from scratch. The melody just came to me
All from scratch
This is the type of sampling I've wanted to execute on for a long time. Turned a Gladys Knight song into this…
Felt like creating instead of re-creating. So i made a boom-bap Captial Steez type beat
The beginning of my re-make of "Barking" by Ramz. Something is really throwing me off
Today I recreated "Toast" by Koffee, from scratch. This was an extremely meticulous process - probably the longest I've ever spent on a beat in a single night. Going to put on the finishing touches tomorrow.
Re-created "Grace and Mercy" by Mick Jenkins today.
Another remake today, this time channeling "Sativa" by Jhene Aiko.
Changed up my process - I am going to try to re-create beats now, in order to try to pick up some new skills and experiment. Today's beat is an attempt at channeling "Golden Goals by Bas"
Nothing fancy here
Going to add counter melodies to this later
Heard "I've Got it Bad" by Nina Simone playing at Starbucks so I decided to flip it
Simple lofi beat
9th Wonder type beat for the old school hip-hop heads. The melody is a loop I downloaded, but I aim to be able to sample the same way eventually
Sampled Snoh Alegra to make this Weeknd type beat. Need to adjust the 808s though because they're out of key
Reminds me of British rap for some reason, like something Dave would make
Used a new VST to make this intense beat from scratch
YG x Tyga type beat (Loko vibes)
Tried sampling and did not like the outcome
Found this vocal chop of Playboi Carti's verse on Tyler's "Earfquake" and thought I'd mess with it LOL
Travis Scott type beat (snippet)
Made this trap beat purely from scratch. My friend's take on it was it sounded like it could be in the score of an action film
This beat was heavily inspired by Tyler the Creator's album "IGOR". I feel like musically it would fit in very nicely. I still need to work on the structure of the beat before I'm fully satisfied.
Much darker this time lol
Beginnings of an R&B beat
Slow, melancholic beat. I see this going with smooth vocals from an artist like Daniel Caesar, or introspective verses by someone like Kendrick Lamar
Wavey vibes, Mick Jenkins/Isaiah Rashad style
Sad trap beat - I could see Post Malone on this one
I could see A$AP Rocky and Ferg on this
Quick Reggaeton beat - needs more work
Snippet of a simple guitar beat
Simple West coast beat made from a melody pack I downloaded
Sleepy vibes, quick beat/snippet
Put much more effort in this one, and I like the outcome
Quick lo-fi beat for tonight
I was extremely busy today so I only had time to put this quick thing together
Today/yesterday would have been Nipsey Hussle's 34th birthday, so I decided to make this beat as a tribute. RIP King, you are missed.
Pleased with this one…
Rick Ross x Meek Mill type beat - ON THE RUN
Simple beat today but I see potential in this one with some more changes
Chill guitar beat from last night that I will probably add to.
Basic latin beat that I will add more to later
Had some technical difficulties yesterday, but here is yesterday's output
Frank Ocean x Tyler the Creator vibes
Tried to add more sounds to this but FL Studio was acting up
Struggled to find inspiration today but this is what I came up with.
Playboi Carti x A$AP Rocky type beat, made fully from scratch.
I've been listening to this type of music recently and I'm discovering how fun it is to make. With someone singing on these tracks it would be such a vibe
Made a Lil Baby x Gunna type beat today. I'm also pleased that I've found a workflow that has been effective these last couple days.
I put more effort into adding my own countermelodies and instruments in this one.
Spent several hours today trying to make a more complex sampled beat, but it led to nowhere. Then I put this together instead.
Really happy with this one… I got the chance to make it earlier in the day and that allowed me to take my time and add more details.
File wasn't/isn't exporting properly for some reason
Combination of sampling and making melodies from scratch. Mick Jenkins x Isaiah Rashad vibes IMO
I felt super uninspired today and it was really frustrated (the complete opposite of my experience yesterday), so I took a break to reset my mind and change my process (opting for an easier option). This was the outcome, though I'm gonna add a chorus with more sounds later.
This is one of my favourites in a while. Heavily inspire by the Rick Ross/MMG sound.
Quick little beat with some summer vibes.
This is my second time sampling chops with a MIDI keyboard and I'm much more pleased with the outcome
This is my first attempt at chopping a sample and playing the chops on a MIDI keyboard. Not completely satisfied with the outcome, but I feel like it is solid starting point.
Made a remix of "OG Bobby Johnson" by Que over a beat I made. I'm looking to make more remixes going forward.
Today's output is a remix I made, featuring Nas' vocals from "It Ain't Hard to Tell" over the 1978 song "Nicole" by Enrico Intra.
Manipulated a loop and put together this quick beat.
